We’re pleased to have secured planning permission for a replacement dwelling within a rural area, where the design had to respond carefully to the character and qualities of its surroundings.
In rural locations, replacement dwellings are subject to specific planning considerations, including the need to respect the character of the area and remain broadly comparable with the existing dwelling.
Our approach began with a careful assessment of the site and its rural context. This informed a design that combines a traditional form with contemporary detailing, including larger areas of glazing and modern styling.
High quality, locally distinctive and natural materials were selected to complement the surrounding landscape, whilst ensuring the new dwelling remains sensitive to its setting.
Although the replacement dwelling is larger than the existing property, the increase is not significant, and the proposal has been carefully designed around the constraints of the site. Through the planning process, we successfully demonstrated that the proposal would represent an enhancement to the existing property and a positive addition to the area.
