Following the recent planning approval for 11 bespoke holiday units at Mawgan Porth, this scheme demonstrates how thoughtful architecture can respond to both place and landscape.
Situated within an existing holiday park, the development was carefully designed around the site’s unique characteristics. From flood risk constraints and mature trees to its setting adjacent to an Area of Great Landscape Value (AGLV), every aspect of the proposal was informed by a thorough understanding of the environment.
Rather than working against these constraints, Laurence Associates adopted a design led approach that embraced them. Detailed technical assessments, including flood risk analysis and tree root protection studies, helped shape a layout that respects the landscape while delivering a practical and sustainable development.
The architecture takes inspiration from Cornwall’s distinctive character through the use of locally influenced materials, simple contemporary forms and carefully positioned openings that capture surrounding views while maintaining privacy for visitors.
Alongside the architectural design, environmental considerations played a key role throughout the project. Biodiversity Net Gain, ecological enhancements, retention of existing tree canopy and sensitive site planning were all integrated into the approved scheme, ensuring the development contributes positively to its surroundings.
This project reflects Laurence Associates’ collaborative approach to architecture, planning and environmental design, creating high-quality holiday accommodation that responds sensitively to one of Cornwall’s most distinctive coastal locations.
