Cornwall Building Regulations Update Event 2026

We recently attended the annual building regulations update hosted by Cornwall Council Building Control and Local Authority Building Control. The event brings together architects, consultants and industry specialists to discuss upcoming regulatory changes, emerging risks and innovative construction solutions.

This year’s sessions covered a wide range of important topics. Cornwall Mining Consultants delivered a fascinating presentation exploring the history of mining in Cornwall and the ongoing impact that historic mine workings can have on both existing buildings and new developments. They also discussed potential planning considerations that may affect future projects across the region.

Cornwall Building Control also outlined the upcoming Building Safety Levy, which is due to be introduced in October 2026, providing insight into how the levy may affect development applications moving forward.

Industry specialists shared valuable technical knowledge throughout the day. Helifix presented their structural anchoring systems and explained how their products are used in structural repair and masonry stabilisation. Meanwhile Permavent delivered a CPD session focused on condensation, covering common causes and practical solutions, including the use of air and vapour permeable membranes.

The event concluded with a collaborative Q&A session hosted by Building Control, providing architects and regulators with the opportunity to discuss how application processes can be streamlined to improve efficiency and clarity for all parties.

Events like this play an important role in keeping the industry informed, connected and prepared for future regulatory changes.
