Every Project Has More Than One Story to Tell

Every Project Has More Than One Story to Tell.

While first impressions are important, the success of a building is often found in the details that emerge from different viewpoints. Every elevation, material choice and landscape intervention contributes to how a home is experienced, both by those who live there and by those who encounter it within the wider landscape.

This replacement dwelling is a project we have previously shared, but these latest perspectives provide an opportunity to look beyond the initial design narrative and explore the qualities that help create a lasting sense of place.

Designed to support multi-generational living, the home combines generous internal accommodation with a carefully considered external appearance. Natural stone, dark timber cladding and a restrained material palette were selected to ensure the building sits comfortably within its setting, while contemporary detailing gives the home a distinct identity.

The arrival sequence was an important aspect of the design. A spacious courtyard creates a strong sense of arrival, while the arrangement of the built form helps break down the scale of the dwelling and provides a series of visual connections between architecture and landscape.

Elsewhere across the site, existing planting and landscape features have been retained and supplemented with carefully planned new planting to soften the transition between the building and its surroundings. Together, these elements are not simply decorative additions but form an integral part of the overall design approach, helping the home feel established within the landscape and strengthening its relationship with the site’s mature setting.

Projects such as this demonstrate how successful residential design extends beyond meeting functional requirements. By considering architecture, planning and landscape design together from the outset, it is possible to create homes that respond sensitively to their context while supporting the needs of modern family life.

Every project has more than one story to tell, and often it is through these alternative perspectives that the full design journey can be appreciated.
