Appeal Success for Agricultural Workers Dwelling Near Penzance

Laurence Associates is delighted to have secured planning permission at appeal for an agricultural worker dwelling in a highly sensitive rural setting near Penzance.

The site is located within the National Landscape and a designated dark skies area, making the planning considerations particularly complex. While extensive evidence was submitted to demonstrate the operational need for the dwelling, the Local Planning Authority refused the application, concluding that existing accommodation on the site was sufficient to meet the needs of the farming enterprise.

Following the refusal, Laurence Associates represented the appellant through the appeal process and submitted additional technical evidence to further demonstrate the need for an additional dwelling. The proposal forms part of the farm’s succession planning, allowing our client to gradually step back from day to day farming activities as he approaches 70 years of age, while providing accommodation for a new farm manager.

The appeal was determined through the hearings process, with Laurence Associates representing the appellant and presenting evidence relating to agricultural need, planning policy and heritage matters. Following detailed discussions, the independent Planning Inspector fully supported our case and allowed the appeal.

The decision represents an excellent outcome for our client and will help secure the long-term future of the farm business by enabling a smooth transition of management responsibilities.

Applications for agricultural workers dwellings within protected landscapes often require detailed technical evidence and a robust planning strategy. Laurence Associates has extensive experience in securing permissions for rural workers dwellings, navigating planning challenges in protected landscapes and representing clients at planning appeals.

If you require advice on agricultural workers dwellings, rural development projects or planning appeals, our experienced planning team would be pleased to assist.
