Planning Consent Secured for Methane-Capture Facility

Laurence Associates has recently been successful in securing a unique development in Cornwall with planning consent granted for a research and development facility which specialises in fugitive methane capture.

In order to allow for a successful application, with the facility being within the open countryside and largely divorced from services and facilities, a bespoke argument was required to justify the need for this specific business to be in the location proposed. The planning argument therefore hinged on pointing out that the scheme needed to be away from other properties due to the general practices that occur on site, as well as arguing that as the business works with the agricultural industry, its location was fully justified.

To assist in demonstrating the benefits of the scheme, we were keen to work with our client to ensure that the company ethos was communicated. To ensure this was the case, a business case outlining how business operates and why the development was required was provided within our Planning submissions. The submission carefully detailed how the scheme would bring substantial benefits to our environment and how proposal would help fight against the anthropogenic sources of methane emissions, with 47% of methane emissions currently coming from agriculture within the UK.

In addition to this, landscape impact was key and Bio-diversity and landscaping proposals were submitted to ensure the scheme enhanced its immediate and wider setting.

Overall, through orchestrating a strong planning argument, with client input key to success, we were able to achieve a positive outcome for a crucial development in our fight against climate change.
