A considered evolution of a familiar form

This project began not with a blank page, but with an idea already valued by the client. Rather than reworking the scheme entirely, the approach focused on developing and refining what was already there, allowing the design to grow with clarity and purpose.

At its heart, the composition is simple. A main dwelling is paired with a detached garage, each expressed as its own volume while remaining connected through a consistent material palette and architectural language. Traditional gabled forms provide a familiar starting point, reinterpreted in a way that feels contemporary and measured.

Materiality is central to the character of the scheme. Vertical burnt cedar cladding introduces depth and variation, responding subtly to changing light conditions throughout the day. This is complemented by natural stone, laid in fine courses with carefully detailed joints, bringing both texture and precision to the elevations. The combination creates a balanced contrast, structured yet tactile, refined yet warm.

Openings are generous but deliberate. Full height glazing draws natural light deep into the interior spaces while framing views of the surrounding landscape. This strengthens the connection between inside and out, allowing the building to sit comfortably within its setting.

The detached garage adopts a more restrained expression. Finished in darker tones and paired with a zinc standing seam roof, it acts as a quieter counterpart to the main house, completing the composition without competing for attention.

The final design is not a departure from the original idea, but a continuation of it. By building on a strong foundation, the project achieves a sense of resolution and cohesion. The result is a home that feels grounded in its context, quietly confident in its expression, and enduring in its architectural language.

If you are considering a new home or looking to evolve an existing design, our team is always open to an initial conversation. Get in touch to discuss how we can help shape your project with clarity and care.
