Barn Conversion Approved West Cornwall

Laurence Associates has recently obtained planning permission for the conversion of this modest traditional barn in West Cornwall to a dwelling.

The design was entirely context-led and ensures that the traditional characteristics are retained, whilst allowing the building to function as a dwelling. A modest porch extension, slight remodelling of the roofline, and limited changes to the openings highlight the light-touch approach that ensures that it will remain a traditional feature within the landscape.

The building sits within a number of designations, including the Cornwall National Landscape, a World Heritage Site, and a Conservation Area. The scheme was considered by the local planning authority to be entirely appropriate in the context of preserving the characteristics of all of these.

The approval of this application follows the approval of the conversion of another barn within the same complex, the works for which are already underway, and we look forward to seeing work commence on this project.

Understanding the context and setting was an important first step in ensuring that this project was appropriately designed and was integral to its approval.

At Laurence Associates, we specialise in delivering sensitive, context-led solutions for complex sites. With architectural, planning and landscape expertise all in house, we’re ideally placed to guide projects within designated and historic settings from concept to consent.
