The Mowhay

A scheme to amalgamate three long-forgotten derelict stone outbuildings in a patch of wooded scrubland in a field at St Gluvias, near Penryn. The owners were clear from the outset: the conversion needed to sit peacefully within its hillside surroundings, a marriage of the old and new.

Our design combined the restoration of the three buildings with modest link extensions using different materials including oak frame, oak boarding and glazing.

The new structure included A-frame trusses to provide a traditional theme to the architecture, whilst providing interest and height to the internal space. A detailed landscaping scheme by our landscape architects was prepared to provide a comprehensive approach to the design process.

County planners twice rejected the project, arguing it contravened local planning policy, but their decision was overturned on appeal.
