Sam's on the Beach
Cornish restaurateurs, Sam and Emma Sixton, approached us to discuss the development potential of the former 19th Century lifeboat station and slipway on the harbour front in Polkerris, a tiny village at the eastern end of St Austell Bay.
Keen to add it to their growing chain of Sam’s food outlets, they instructed us to design a waterfront restaurant without compromising the building’s historic integrity.
We achieved this by making minimal alterations to its external appearance, save for the insertion of floor to ceiling glazing within the former slipway door. The boathouse, once the heart of the community, is now firmly back on the map following its sympathetic transformation.
