Humble Cottage
Situated in the hamlet of Ellenglaze, near the settlement of Cubert. To the north and north west is the domestic curtilage in association with Ellenglaze Manor, a Grade II Listed building. The existing two storey cottage is thought to have been constructed in the early 1800s and is of traditional construction with painted render and pitched slate roof.
The brief was to design a modest contemporary extension on the south eastern elevation of the property to provide additional living space and master bedroom suite space as well as access to the raised garden to the east. The extension would be constructed of locally sensitive materials comprising natural stonework; a zinc roof over the newly formed entrance and slate roof with timber door and powder coated aluminium windows.
The modern well-lit extension breaks away from the traditional cottage whist providing a strong sense of grounding, with exposed natural stonework gable end of the cottage on show in the dining area. The basement level below the master bedroom suite provides additional storage and utility area and link to the stepped rear terrace.
