Currently on site, this scheme proposes a highly attractive, modern replacement dwelling as a local couple’s main residence. A modern and coherent development will replace an ugly collection of buildings; the existing house and a number of redundant outbuildings and sheds.
The low impact, sustainable dwelling incorporates high levels of insulation and glazing to the south of the site. The flat roof is an integral part of the design, keeping the ridge height as low as possible so as to blend sympathetically with the surrounding landscape.
The design is centred around a small courtyard which allows an excellent flow through the building and light into the internal corridors. A small balcony from the master bedroom maximises the view of the estuary and enjoys evening light. The development includes a boathouse and car port to house a small rib in winter with a workshop below which utilises the foundations of the existing swimming pool. The building also creates a privacy buffer from the neighbouring property.
