Set in an elevated position overlooking Porthtowan Beach, The Bungalow occupies an exceptional coastal site with expansive views across the beach and Atlantic beyond.

Our brief was to replace the existing single storey dwelling with a contemporary two storey home, carefully designed to respond to its challenging multi level setting whilst maximising views and connections between the internal and external spaces.

Following planning permission in 2023, the new home was designed with an open plan kitchen, living and dining space, alongside four bedrooms, including a master suite, study and ancillary spaces.

Materiality was central to the design, combining vertical timber cladding, natural stone and copper detailing inspired by Cornwall’s mining heritage. Sustainable measures include sedum planting, solar panels and MVHR.

Completed in 2025, The Bungalow provides a contemporary response to its prominent coastal setting, drawing on the character, materials and heritage of the surrounding Cornish landscape.
