We were instructed to design an extension for Marazion Surgery and expansion of the current parking area. Located on the northern edge of the town, the existing surgery is a purpose built, modest sized, single storey detached building which offers limited patient car parking space.
Designed to enhance the surgery, the extension provides four additional consultations rooms, as well as a waiting area and disabled toilet. A largely detached building, the low profile design extension is subservient to the existing surgery; attached at the eastern end via a link corridor with a mono-pitch roof and white render elevations.
The car park expansion onto existing agricultural land to the north of the site is proportionate with the extension and affects only a small area of a much larger field, providing an additional thirty-three parking bays with a flat pedestrian walkway to the surgery.
The development proposal provides additional space for health consultation and treatment in the community; improving the local health care infrastructure in the town of Marazion.
Planning permission was granted by Cornwall Council in September 2015; the first phase of the project is to construct the car park with the extension to the surgery in the second phase. Laurence Associates Landscape Architects have been commissioned to prepare a detailed scheme & contract administration for the tender and construction stage of the project, work is due to commence on site in spring of 2016.
