St Clair house is a Grade 2 Listed Building used as a residential home. In order to improve the facilities provided for the care home residents, our client wished to substantially extend the building, while at the same time removing some unsympathetically designed extensions that had been added over the years. The care home's existing facilities upgraded and the building to the rear was completely remodelled.
Laurence Associates was instructed and prepared initial concept sketch plans and visualisations on how the proposals would look in context, and subsequently apply for planning, listed building and building regulations permission for the extensions. This included obtaining permission for the repair and use of the listed boundary wall which was used as part of the outside wall of the extension.
Our design team work closely with the Council's conservation officer on the detailing of various aspects of the proposals, including recessed downpipes, roof abutment details, glazed links between the buildings, joinery details and the choice of external finishes. The proposed extensions were of a traditional design and proportion, that respected the setting of the listed building.
