On 27 July, Test Valley Borough Council granted planning permission for one of the largest solar farms in the country; a 48MW ground mounted solar farm at Eveley in Hampshire. This is the 31st large-scale ground-mounted solar farm that Laurence Associates has secured planning permission for on behalf of clients, totalling over 312MW consent since early 2011 for sites over 1MW.
Plans were initially submitted for a 49MW solar farm in 2013 but they were swiftly rejected by Test Valley Borough Council who cited their potential to have an "unacceptable impact" on the landscape. Revised plans were submitted but their approval was set back by the then Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles, placing a holding direction over them, forbidding the council from acting until he had the opportunity to review them. After the post-election reshuffle Greg Clark cleared the approval at the end of July.
